Great article, great idea, but silly (click-bait?) title. Most people who travel already have a brain that seeks experience and seeing “tourist traps” isn’t counter to brain-expansion. Niagara Falls itself is still more amazing than discovering “Smarties” in the nearby Canadian candy aisle, and it’s hard to argue the Taj Mahal is somehow less engaging than the Indian markets around the corner. I agree local markets reveal the authentic truths of a culture and must be visited, but don’t negate the power or knowledge derived from experiencing important landmarks and monuments. Enjoying them is not brainless — NOT traveling, NOT packing a bag once in a while, is the true folly.
