I’m not worried. Ecology is smarter than we can ever hope to be, even with our clever thumbs and minds. The epoch of the dinosaurs ended in an afternoon. A virus could obliterate in mere months. We should do our best for each other while we’re here, with this precious time and chance, but also know the world will go on long after we’ve ruined it for ourselves and other forms will take hold. We can plan and be responsible and empathetic, but we cannot predict.
