It’s an interesting and poignant article and obviously it used An Example that connects to Some, but the overriding message I found was we don’t successfully teach our youth about basic economics. CREDIT IS NOT INCOME 101 should be the starting point. My Dad started me on a Debit Card when I was 15 and got my first job. When I turned 19 and got my first credit card I wrote Emergencies Only on it, but the easy access to money is seductive: I bought a VCR. And some movies. And a bike. And dinners. And and and…

The discipline of understanding future consequences for today’s actions is absent, and credit cards, heck — our government! — thrives on this principle. True prosperity, both personal and societal, comes from a hearty and intelligent infrastructure and diligent maintenance and attention. THAT’S what NEEDS to be taught.
