“Know something about everything and everything about something.” —Marcus Vitruvius Pollio (70–25 BC) (paraphrased)
NOT taking that advice I went to Architecture school and then earned degrees in Film and Photography. Then I created an organic coffee shop, a health food store, a yoga studio, a performance venue, an art gallery, a retro candy store/ice cream shoppe, a luxury livery business, a house-flipping biz with old-house restorations on the side, a pet-sitting side hustle, I published a newspaper, an arts magazine, made two films, became a realtor and then a professional real estate and travel photographer, I designed kitchens, delivered luxury flowers, delivered The Wall Street Journal, worked in an Opera House in the mountains of Colorado, interned at an Australian film production company, worked as an inventory auditor, an investigative accountant, a law file clerk, a cut-glass window designer, a waiter, a marketing maven for a online vitamin store, an Audio/Visual technician, I mastered the Adobe Suite and worked as a senior graphics designer for publications, websites, logos and blogs, I repaired Apple products for friends and neighbors, drove for Uber, played piano in a high-end restaurant for 2 years, created and ran an international film festival for a decade, wrote a novel, built a zen pond with waterfalls, maintained a healthy and loving relationship with my husband of 25 years, remembered friends birthdays and I even call my parents now and then.
I’m 47 now.
I think I want to paint.
