There’s also the wondrous malapropism: the mistaken use of a word in place of a similar-sounding one, often with unintentionally amusing effect. My favorite: when the Chilean miners were rescued the newscaster said, “let’s hope they all come out on skates!” She meant unscathed, of course, but what a delightful mental image she created!
