Perhaps, but that doesn’t necessarily make me an accomplice to the oppressor. I cannot control the timing of my birth and the generation I was raised with, nor the geopolitical or socioeconomic structures that influenced my first decades any more than the color of my own skin (which is actually olive and of Mediterranean origins, but counts as “white” and equals the assumed privilege). My point: I love this article and how it highlights the submersive racism that exists and continues to influence us on ALL sides. What I CAN do about the ills of the society we live in, built by our predecessors, is to be sensitive and empathetic, open to change, and fully willing and participatory in tearing it down. Thank you for the article. It helps us to do this through step one: Recognition.
