The inexpensive cars I bought used at 40K miles gave me over 250K miles without incident because I put the money in the maintenance and purchased off someone else’s initial depreciation. The higher quality clothing I bought as a teenager have held up, but I got them at a thrift store in a wealthy town. I bought an older house that needs cosmetic work, but it has good bones and high-end appliances; the prior owners paid a fortune, but I’m enjoying their longevity. My point: yes, buy the best, but don’t PAY more to have it. Utilize eBay, Craigslist, NextDoor, estate sales, quality thrift/consignment stores etc. Then maybe you’ll have the extra $200 for a better cabin (on your discounted cruise).
