We had a Nissan Leaf and it was great—but with only 90 mile range we were limited. NYC is 35 miles away, but if we were stuck in traffic or using the AC we feared we might not make it home! So we traded for a Hyundai Ioniq Plug In Hybrid. 30 miles electric, then it goes to hybrid mode and gets ~75mpg. We calculate 90% of our drives are less than 30 miles and our composite mpg consistently rates around 700mpg. Longer trips take the fuel, but in the end, by the time the tank reaches 1/4 and I refuel, the composite average is ~140mpg. Pretty great when you consider I never need to worry about running out of juice or gas and I’ve only filled the tank 5 times in the 18 months! Also, with the smaller battery it charges from zero to full in 90 minutes. The best part: it’s so in-demand right now the dealer offered me $2500 more than I paid! But I’m still gonna keep it…
